‘Rhyme Jar’ Scheme Donates $31,000 To Charity
$31,000 in The Hip-Hop Rhyme Jar
In 1991, the public voiced a chorus of disapproval against the amount of rhyming verses in hip-hop.
Public Enemy, KRS One, Big Daddy Kane, Ice T, Black Sheep, Slick Rick, Nice n Smooth, KMD & Main Source all challenged each other to produce albums which didn’t have any rhyming verses.
The artists put together a ‘rhyme jar” and had to pay $2 for every rhyme uttered in any of their album releases during the year period. The ranking tables went like so:
Big Daddy Kane – $620
Slick Rick – $600
Nice n Smooth – $540
Main Source – $540
Black Sheep – $260
ICE T – $200
Public Enemy – $160
KMD – $90
KRS One – $90
The ‘rhyme jar’ accumulated $31,000 which they donated to the Fly Cordory Trousers for The Homeless Society (F.C.T.F.T.H.S)
